cris elliot
Cristina Elisabeth Elliot was born on August 18, 1983 to parents Abigail and Adam Elliot. Abigail was a nurse before she got pregnant with their first child, a daughter named Dianna. Her father worked hard in construction for twenty years before climbing up all the ranks in the company he worked for and eventually opening his own. He is a successful self-built entrepreneur and he often expects the same kind of pro-activity from his kids.
Cris was the couple's second daughter, born three years after Dianna, and even though the Elliots were certain that their family was complete then, little Michael would surprise everyone nine years later, as the fruit of an unexpected pregnancy.
The girl grew up in a fairly normal household in Providence, RI. Her parents were loving if not busy. Her mother had quit her job to be a full-time housewife for the first few years of Dianna and Cris' childhoods, but soon the bills started piling up and the woman had to seek alternative employment. With two small children to care for, she needed a job that allowed for flexible hours. She attempted to get back into the field of medicine, but the hours were too demanding and soon Abigail found herself back home with the children and no paycheck.
During this time of financial distress, Abigail and Adam constantly argued and though they tried not to let it show in front of their daughters, the tension was difficult to ignore even to the seven and four year olds at the time. It's hazy in Cristina's mind, since she was so young, but she remembers her father packing a bag and leaving and how scared it made her feel. Her parents reconciled only a few weeks later and have been (mostly) happily together since. As Cris has very little recollection of what happened back then, her outlook on marriage and relationships is fairly positive - especially considering the fact that she herself has been with the same man since high school.
Soon after her father returned home, her mother found a new profession all but by chance. Always able with her hands, Abigail had taken to teaching all sorts of arts and crafts to the girls, taking an active role in not only their formal education at school, but also a well-rounded artistic and musical education at home. Her ability with artisanry led to some of the other moms getting interested in purchasing some of the products they made, from handcrafted blouses and dresses to mosaic portraits and handcrafted jewelry. Soon her mother had a semi-steady source of income and was working from home, with something she could easily trick her daughters in helping.
With the extra income and her father's promotion at work, life got a little easier for the Elliots. They steadily built up to middle class and that was their status when four years later they found out Abigail was pregnant again. With a twelve year difference between her eldest and the youngest child, Michael's arrival at the house took some adapting. The girls were mostly welcoming of the new baby, a real life doll to play with, but Abigail and Adam weren't ready to go through the whole parenting again and it led to quite a few break downs before the little baby boy finally was placed into his mother's arms and all grievances were forgotten.
All the love in the world couldn't save the Elliots from the affliction of drug addiction when Michael got involved with the wrong people at the age of fifteen. It was a difficult age and Michael had always been a trouble child for as long as they could remember. He just needed an excuse, Cris supposed, and that was what he got when he first started doing drugs. It started with pot, then coke and soon he was hooked on smack. By age seventeen, he had quit school and run away from home several times, disappearing for months before coming home and attempting to get clean, only to relapse again a few weeks later.
Michael's addiction put considerable strain on the family and led to several serious disagreements between Abigail and Adam. Abigail wanted to help Michael and always welcomed him home with hopes that that time he would truly get clean and become the old Michael they all knew and loved. Adam took a more severe stance and took a no nonsense approach whenever Michael was home.
Adam and Michael's loud and virulent arguments when the younger man was home often made the family take sides. Dianna and Abigail were lenient and thought Michael always needed a new chance to fix his life, while Cris agreed with her father and thought he'd had enough chances and if he hadn't taken them by now, he would never change. It just hurt too much to continue to be invested in her brother's life when he had no consideration for his family, so Cris swore off of her brother. She avoided him whenever he came home and before she moved out with Matty after college, Cris made it clear to her brother that even though she loved him, unless he got his act together, he no longer existed to her.
Cris successfully ignored Michael for three years before relenting and starting to try and rebuild a relationship. Michael is still an addict and nothing has really changed, so things are still strained and Cris oscillates between loving and hating her brother, but she's too exhausted from it all to keep holding a grudge. As it is, Cris tries not to think about it unless Michael's showed up and invaded their lives again. It does no one any good to wonder if during the months he disappears without a trace he has ODed and died in some dirty crack house - nope... she doesn't even think about it.
As a result of spending so much time with their mother growing up, both girls became fairly skilled in arts and crafts and Cris puts those skills to good use to complement her and Matty's income. She sells handcrafted jewelry she makes from her home, as well as Mary Kay make-up and cosmetics. As her main source of income, Cris works as an English teacher in Adult Education Programs.
She attended Brown with her boyfriend, Matty, in the English program, mostly because Cris had no idea what to do with her life once she graduated high school. The degree wasn't difficult to get, though the career options were limited. Teachers hardly made a lot of money and with Matty pursuing the same profession, their lives have always been modest at best. Despite potential struggles for money, Cris loves her domestic little life and would do anything to protect it if she had to. She and Matty moved in together after college and have been living together ever since.
Cris got a boob job at 25 and spent pretty much all of her savings on it. She had been saving for it since she was 17 and it was common knowledge among her friends how much she wanted it done. She even started a "Boob Job Fund" and asked her friends to donate money to it instead of getting her gifts for her birthday or Christmas. She has never been happier with her body and it shows in the fact that pretty much all of her clothes are generous in the cleavage department. Matty doesn't seem to mind, so Cris is happy to show off the results of the hard-earned surgery.
